Ram Charan biography:

Ram Charan born in 1939 in Uttar Pradesh, India. He is a noted expert on business strategy, speaker and writer. When he was young, he used to work at their family´s shoe shop until he earned a degree in engineering from Banaras Hindu University. Some years later, he studied at Harvard Business School. Then, he becomed a full-time consultant in 1978, teaching at Harvard and Boston universities.
Charan was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources in 2000. He spent much of his life studying and working , the proof is that he doesn´t have neither wife nor children. This important consultant worked for many prestigious companies like GE, KLM and Bank of America. He is the author of many popular books on business such as Leadership in the Era of Economic Uncertainty: The New Rules for Getting the Right Things Done in Difficult Times, Boards That Deliver, What The CEO Wants You To Know, Boards At Work, Every Business Is A Growth Business (with Noel Tichy), Profitable Growth Is Everyone's Business, Confronting Reality,Know How and Execution.

“Leadership in the Era of Economic Uncertainty” wrote by Ram Charan, sets how a leader must react when economic problems such as financial crisis endarger a company. In this case, how Chad Holliday acted when he realized that a crisis was growing up affecting credits and therefore companies financial operations.
The first time Chad Holliday realized this situation ,was while he was visiting one of his customers in Japan. When he landed in United States he started working to solve the problem. The first action was the “Corporate Crisis Plan” which invoked the 17 standing teams whose mision was to ensure Dupont´s viavility. Then to solve the problem, Holliday decided that communications with the employees should be stablished. Here, they were asked to think about three things they can immediately do to conserve cash and reduce costs which also makes them realize the nature of the crisis and their psycological reaction. The next idea that Holliday had, was to met the company´s top 14 leaders and asked them what they were doing to solve the problem. Holliday then saw that a quickly act has to be developed in order to fight the crisis so he appointed a three-person team of executives who worked for longer-term actions such as fastest ways to save cash like cutting back as much as posible the outside contractor the company had hired.
In conclusion, the great work that Chad Holliday made, should be an example for many leaders when they have to face difficult problems like crisis. These leaders should act quickly without being overcome by fear and took intelligent decisions to save their companies.
